How To Turn Your Struggles Into Strengths

Welcome to my third installment in the “How to Reinvent Yourself” series.  In this episode, we are going to discuss “How to Turn Your Struggles into Strengths”. If this is your first time joining us, I encourage you to go back and listen to episodes #37 and #38. In episode #37 we covered "How to Reinvent Yourself for Remote Work or Business,” and in episode #38 we tackled ways to “Talk about Yourself Without sounding Like a Jerk” when talking to a potential employer or client. These episodes will set the foundation for this episode.

Today we are going to cover another tip that will have a big impact on reinventing yourself for remote work or a remote business. Sit down, grab a cup of coffee, and let's get started.

I have found that this is where people get stuck when they are reinventing themselves. Something has happened in their life that you would identify as a struggle. A struggle is going to be different for everyone. An example would be you had to leave the workforce due to an illness or to take care of a family member who is ill.

Today we are going to talk about how to take that struggle and turn it into a strength when looking for a remote job or starting a new business. While this struggle might make you question who is going to hire you now or pay me to do XYZ when I have been out of the workforce for so long.

While this might look like a negative you can turn this struggle into a positive by finding all the skills you developed while navigating through your situation. You could have developed better focus, resilience, or organizational skills. Which in turn can be used to fill in the time gap on your resume.

So, you want to look at your struggle from a different perspective, and to do this you can ask yourself some questions.

1). What did it take for you to get through that situation?

2). How were you helpful to yourself or someone else during that time?

3). How were you changed for the better?

4). What are the positive outcomes now?

Today’s episode shows you another easy way to reinvent yourself for remote work. I hope this helps you see yourself in new ways.

See you next week when we will explore how to identify your lifelong body of work.
