Build Your Life Vision

In this exciting new series, I want to inspire you to create a life vision. There's a foundation, pillars, and a roof, and with each of these items, let's build a house!

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • How to Define your life vision and live it every day
  • Take my practical tips to reset yourself so you can create more intention around the things you want.
  • How to lay your foundation (the building blocks of your life), build your pillars (subjects that you want to concentrate on from each area of the foundation), and the roof is your life vision.

Here’s what you can find in this episode:

[:40] I am excited to start December with a new series. This whole series is about defining your life vision and living it every day. While this might not sound very exciting stick with me because I am going to give you the inspiration, and practical tips to turn this into reality. As we head into a new year let's clean out the old energy, and get ready to usher in the new energy. You can do this anytime throughout the year, and I encourage you to do so.

[1:39] Please remember that this is the longest episode of the month which I call the wheel, and then the rest of the month is the shorter spoke episodes. This episode is all about setting the foundation, and then we will build off of it for the rest of the month. 

[1:50] Today is all about being inspirational and giving you the foundations to implement what I am going to teach you today. And in the following weeks, I will give you tips to implement this into your life.

[3:00] We are going to deviate away from remote work this month, and take my counseling/coaching skills to get us ready for the new year. This is something I have been noodling with for a while and wanted to share it with you. You can use my model, but you don't have to. 

[3:50] Let's talk about what this is not going to be! It is not about setting goals. Goals can add pressure, and we don't want to do that. This will not be a living your best life RAH RAH episode. These are going to be practical tips to reset yourself. By resetting you can create more intention around the things you want.

[6:00] Even though I call this my model it is one that I have read about and changed for the better - I hope. An example is the "5 domains of life", and there are other models with similar content. The domains (aka categories) would be religion, spirituality, family, community, etc. The sky's the limit on what could be a domain. 

[8:00] Let's check out my model, and then tweak it for your needs. By keeping our model or framework simple you can remember them and use them all the time. 

[9:00] Here are my 3 domains, and then the visual to show you how to use them.

  1. Self
  2. Health
  3. Wealth

On a daily basis, I can ask myself what am I doing for my health today, what am I doing for myself today, and what am I doing for my wealth today. For the visual, you can use a house, a boat, an RV, or just about anything you want. 

[10:41] For this example we are going to use a house. We start with the foundation, pillars, and roof. You might think this is really easy, and that is the point. We want it easy so you use it. 

[12:15] Let's tackle this exercise so you can get started building your own life vision. You can visualize your house or you can draw it which is a very powerful tool.

  • Think of the roof as the vision because it is at the top, This doesn't have to be a huge declaration. It can be Time (with family & friends), Travel, or just about anything you want to accomplish in your life.
  • Now we will tackle the foundation. The foundation is made of my 3 domains - Self, Health, and Wealth. Next, we will dig deeper into what is in each of these categories.

[18:20] Let;s start with the Self category. This one could be a little hard to figure out. You need to figure out who you are, your values, and your beliefs, and list all things that make you who you are.

[18:52] Now let's look at the Health category. This could be your physical health, your mental health, your spiritual health, or you can even drill it down to diet or exercise. This can be whatever you want it to be. These categories will eventually go on our pillars but not yet.

[20:10] The Wealth category's obvious definition is how much money you have. But, it can also mean what makes you feel abundant in life. You could be wealthy in spirit, have an abundance of time, wealthy in your relationships just to name a few. These can cross over to other categories.

[22:10] Between now and the next time we met you need to figure out what domains or categories you want your foundation to be made up of. And from there figure out what you want your pillars to be made up of. An example of this is in Self - I identify as a business owner. You can write down how you see yourself now or how you would like to see yourself in the future. This exercise is designed to be what you want it to be. Be more intentional.

[25:00 How many Pillars? I would say no more than 5. Remember we want to keep it simple. 

[26:10] Don't forget the fun! I would like to travel more so that could be in more than one category. It could go in the health pillar, and the wealth pillar (I will need money to travel).
